It literally has been one headset after another getting reviewed over the past few months at DragonBlogger.com where I personally have had to review 6 headsets in 4 weeks while my staff reviews some other headsets.  This one being finally showcased today is the Honstek G6 Gaming headset which is a 3.5mm Stereo headset that is compatible with PC, PS4, Xbox One or mobile devices via the 3.5mm headset jack.  Now the only thing to note here is the headset is a split green/pink 3.5mm headset and you will need a 3.5mm Y joiner to combine to a singe audio jack if you want to use it in your console or phone.  Honstek did not include that adapter in the headset but they claim if you order the product they will send you that adapter for free.

honstekg6-1honstekg6-2

The box may have showed it was a green headset, but it comes in several different colors and the one I had in the box was kind of a copper/bronze color not green like the picture on the box.  Also I think the could have done a better job with spell checking their packaging, as noted in the image below.  Regardless of how decent the quality is of a product, if you are first introduced to the product with spelling errors and typo’s it hurts professionalism for a brand and gives a bad impression.

honstekg6-3

But I won’t tease the brand too much for the typo, because this headset actually sounds pretty great and is very comfortable.  Let’s kick off with my unboxing of the Honstek G6 Gaming Headset.

Here are the specs of the Honstek G6

Speaker:

Driver: Φ50mm

Sensitivity: 100±3dB

Impedance: 32Ω±15%

Frequency Response: 20-20KHZ

Cord Length: 2.2m±5%

Microphone:

Mic Dimension: 6.0×2.7mm

Sensitivity: -42±3dB

Frequency Response: 100-10KHZ

Plug Type:Φ3.5mm

For me 50mm drivers do make a difference in volume compared to 40mm drivers for me and I found these to sound better than most Kotion Each or Sades headsets and it is in the same price range at just under $30.  What makes this headset a bit different than your standard headset with a side USB light is that the vibration function which kicks in when you are listening to bass heavy music or when gaming deep bass sound is played makes a bit of a difference in providing ambience.  Most headsets have a switch for vibration on and off, but the Honstek G6 gives you a dial allowing you to adjust the amount of vibration which is a decent benefit and you can get more vibration than some headsets I have tested.

The headset is also extremely durable, the inner headband has all the elasticity to adjust to virtually any head size and the outer frame is sturdy and doesn’t have any apparent weak points.  There are no weak joints or cheap plastic area’s that would appear to break if you expand or stretch the headset.  The ear cups are large and fit fairly well though don’t have pivots that allow them to tilt up and down which would be a nice bonus feature.

Here is the Video Review of the Honstek G6 Gaming Headset

Finally we talk about the last aspect of the headset and this is the microphone which is very decent sounding, but among the best features is that the mic is not only flexible, but it can retract into the headset when not in use so as to protect it from snagging on something.  I gave this headset to my son after my review and he loves these more than any other headset he has used, he gave up his Kotion Each G2000 and his Sades headset for this one.  Below he has the mic retracted while he watches a show on Netflix.

honstekg6-4

honstekg6-5

So for a quick mic test, I used this headset on the PS4 for a live stream as well and you can watch and listen to that here.  When I played No Man’s Sky for the two weeks when it came out.

Overall I would give this headset 4.5 stars but because they don’t include the adapter by default and you have to make the extra request I deducted half a star, but if you were looking for a headset and something a bit higher quality than the Kotion Each and cheap plastic headband headsets, then the Honstek G6 really is a very decent 3.5mm audio headset and at a price that is nearly 1/2 that of the Arctic P533 it doesn’t quite have as good audio but for the price it is definitely worth considering if you are on a budget.  Also just so you know the USB plug is what powers the vibration function and light of the headset, you can use it with 3.5mm only like in a PS4 controller but you won’t get light or vibration if you don’t have USB plugged in.

This is a quick review of Brave Frontier for Android, which is a turn based RPG, fantasy, freemium game.

I will have to start with saying my screen shot work on this is lacking.  Some worked and many did not.

Once you have chosen your name you begin to enter the world.

Screenshot_2014-01-09-17-20-25[1]

You are a Summoner in the word of Grand Gaia, a caller of units that will fight by your side against the enemies of the world you are in.   Via the gate you enter different parts of the world with each of those areas having 5 battles/levels per area.  The 5 battle being the boss of the areas.  Your enemies will increase in power as so should you.  You increase power by leveling up via successful battles adding Xp, karma Zel, and materials.  As you complete the areas you unlock other units which you can then fuse with your existing giving the unit more power and leveling the units up.  You can use material to help in creating potions, some to heal, some to poison some to enhance.  The different units have different strengths and weaknesses you need to plan for to insure the most optimum attack during your battles.  The colors of the units and a little icon comes up and shows you which unit will be most effective.

Another unique aspect of the game is the PVP Arena where your party can battle other player.  You don’t have the control you do when battling in the area battles but it is a fun twist.  Suggestion wait until level 14 or 15 to have a chance.

Screenshot_2014-01-10-12-24-55[1]Screenshot_2014-01-10-12-25-05[1]Screenshot_2014-01-10-12-25-15[1]

For a free game this does allow for a lot of depth, the development of the character and your units.  The use of material of your village and the arena allow for a lot of game play time.

As with all freemium games there are many in game purchases available.

Huang Zhong is defending his fort from the evil armies of Shia. Your mission is to vanquish the relenting waves of Shia’s army from bringing down the Fort of your leader Huang Zhong.

The free game comes with 8 rounds with each round containing 8 levels.  At any time there are in game purchases that allow for the building of a stronger army with more capable soldiers, upgraded food supply or special abilities.

Screenshot_2014-01-09-10-07-20Screenshot_2014-01-09-08-30-55

Your barrel wagons are what your forces to need to battle the incoming Shia army.  The more barrels you have the larger your defenses can be.  Choose from Archers, drummers, light and heavy armor.  Each choice is a different supply cost so you must choose wisely to best prepare to defeat the incoming enemy.  Your arrows work better against some types of enemies and not so well against others.  Utilize your special abilities, multi arrow, to save the day and prevent being overrun.

Screenshot_2014-01-09-08-49-59

As you work your way through the different levels you will unlock upgraded soldiers.  This enables you to better defend the fort from the always improving army onslaught.

Screenshot_2014-01-09-08-34-18

Getting frustrated?  Purchase some upgrade points….Money is power in all worlds.

Screenshot_2014-01-09-08-40-26Screenshot_2014-01-09-08-57-15

Be prepared to defend against Shia himself…more mobile than any other soldier in his army.

Screenshot_2014-01-09-08-50-08

3 stars is perfect and easily attained in the early levels but as you work your way through stars are more difficult to come by.

Screenshot_2014-01-09-08-50-40

Those single stars may get to you and drive you to purchase some in game assistance.  No matter the country or the type of currency they are ready for you.  Your wallet is at their service!

Screenshot_2014-01-09-08-57-15

I have been battling through normal mode to try and experience the Survival mode but my skills, without buying anything, have not lived up to the task.  I am still trying because I do find the game fun.  Frustrating at times but that is part of the challenge.  So definitely worth the free purchase price and likely worth some in game purchases to get further than I have so far.  It can be one of those losing time without noticing how much time has gone by games too.

benchmarking

Most benchmarks and their tools are rather arcane and are burdened by technical parameters and jargon. Mucking around with all the technical jargon may not be the right thing for everyone but whether you want to upgrade your video card or just want to see how it performs among others, you just can’t without benchmarking it to learn exactly how much better it is or if it is worth bragging about.

Benchmarking, in most cases, is extremely technical and time consuming, though it doesn’t have to. Luckily, if you just want to benchmark your old GPU against a new one, there are simple methods to do so.

3Dmark

3DMARK  is a great tool and is also a cross-platform tool, so you can even benchmark your android device’s GPU too. For Windows, there is a paid and a free version of the same and you can even compare your scores with other machines across the globe which are using 3Dmark.

The primary differences between the Free and Paid versions are, the paid version allows you to run the benchmark(s) is any order and even the only one that you want to, it also allows you to loop the tests for Stress testing and also run an additional extreme test.

The Free version is powerful enough if you just want to see how much better your new GPU is or you just want to compare your GPU with another. To use the free version, head to 3Dmark website, download the Demo version (use the Mirror link to download it without a steam account).

Now, install the program. Before running the test(s), just keep in mind that focus should be on the program. That means that if any kind of popup, system tray notification or anything that pops up, and you will have to run the test again, so its better to silent all update notifications, close all apps that can generate that kind of pop-ups (killing the background processes in task manager helps!).

Once you are ready, shoot it up, and believe me 3Dmark tests are beautiful to watch. You will see three major scenarios: Ice Storm, Cloud Gate, and the Fire Strike. Each one simulates different kind of gaming and tests things like frame rate, rendering, physics simulation, and other tasks.

result_page

When it’s done, you will get a result page which will show result as well as compare and rank your performance against other machines. Even if you are ranked in the bottom, keep in mind that there are a lot of hardcore gamers with cutting edge rigs out there.

Now if you want to compare your current GPU with a new one simply reviewing and saving the result and then comparing the result with that of the new GPU will do. Now you can know if you got your money’s worth when you upgraded your video card, do you think the benchmark comparisons justified the amount spent on the upgrade?

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

A Fresh perspective

Part 1 Introduction:

This was an amazing game, from start to finish. This was my first introduction into Assassin’s Creed although I do have 2 and 3; I have never had time to play them. While an amazing Booty robbing, swash buckling, cut throat pirate game as this is, there is much more than that. Follow me in my Journey through Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag.

SPOILER ALERT: This is not exactly a walk-through since I do miss somethings but this review will go from the start of the game through the credits and some multiplayer as well. If you don’t want spoilers, you may not want to read further.

clip_image004

You begin your quest as Edward Kenway on a ship near Cape Bonavista in the pouring rain feverishly loading cannons during a battle at sea.  As Edward is loading the cannon the ship is struck and he falls back, when he comes to his senses he hears another shipmate screaming for someone to be the helmsman.  You are now in control and quickly take on the task. You quickly take on the task.  Your initial tasks are to destroy the enemy ships nearby, an easy task as the helmsman the task is to steer your ship to victory.

Attacking this pack of 5 schooners is relatively quick and easy.  As the last ship is destroyed the crew starts celebrating when things on the ship start to go awry.   The gun powder barrels start exploding and the crew quickly tries to douse the flames.  A dark cloaked figure jumps on board and assassinates a member of your crew.  As Edward jumps to action an explosion blows him out of the ship into the ocean.

clip_image006

The screen fades in a scene with Edward speaking to his wife Caroline in bed about getting ahead in life.  Edward wants to go away for a year or 2 to make some money and join a crew as a privateer, a flash back it seems.

After a few seconds of this argument he awakens under water. Edward awakens surrounded by sunken ships and dead bodies floating in the dead space of the ocean. You quickly swim to the surface before you permanently join the other bodies.

clip_image008

clip_image010

clip_image012

When Edward finally reaches land he lays on the beach for a bit to regain some strength when another person crawls up to shore a few feet away. The other person turns out to be an assassin and he asks Edward for a ride to Havana, he offers to pay you 100 Reals.  The conversation goes on few a few seconds and a chase ensues as tempers flare.

Edward states that he wants to work with this assassin but the assassin continues to run away, occasionally landing a few shots at Edward.  After the first shot hits, Edward no longer wants to work with the assassin and wants kill him.

clip_image014

After a bit of chasing Edward catches up to the assassin and a fight begins.  You win the fight, kill and loot the corpse and find a letter made out to Duncan, the assassin you just killed.

clip_image016

The letter is from Governor Torres, the Spanish Governor of Florida asking to meet you in Havana.  To make it believable Edward takes Duncan’s clothes and poses as Duncan but is still left without a vessel.

clip_image018

As you roam this new land in your new digs, you hear a gun shot.  Searching for that sound you quickly approach the cliff and can hear people talking.  It seems that the some men have taken a few hostages and possibly plan to take their ship.  This is where you learn how to hide in the bushes and stalk your prey.  You must lurk around a bit as the red coats walk around and you can take them down one by one,  into the bushes to kill them, but don’t get spotted.

clip_image020

Once these men have all been slain it is just you and the last survivor Stede Bonnet, the others in his crew have been killed.  Stede has his own ship and is also on his way to Havana but has no Captain.  Since you can Captain, it seems you have yourself a new friend and a ship.  Time to set sail for new adventures!

clip_image022

clip_image024

After about 1 or 2 minutes of sailing your new ship and watching the amazing sights the screen dims and you hear a woman’s voice saying “Fantastic work, very promising”.  I sat back thinking this was another flashback and was amazingly surprised to find a modern day woman in a laboratory of sorts with computers behind her.  I thought this was a game set in the past and I was a pirate…

clip_image026

Melanie greats you as you awaken from you slumber or intense VR session.  To make sure you are OK, she asks you to look up and down at the lights that are blinking.  Once she sees you are ready to go she welcomes you to Animus and Project 17,… just go with it for now.

When you are up, you are guided through the first door and around the facilities.  As you follow she tells you that everything you are going through is a memory extracted from DNA found.  Very interesting, let’s see how that plays out.

clip_image028

clip_image030

She motions to billboard of Liberation, Abstergo’s first title she says.

clip_image032

As you make your way to the elevator she hands you a tablet.  She mentions that the security is very light as everyone in the building has a tablet.  The tablets are the only way to navigate the locks in this building; the tablet has your identification on it.  With it, you can access locations based off of permissions IT grants you, like a badge.  Once you make your way into the elevator she lets you know that you can control the elevator through your tablet and to select the Sample 17 floor.

clip_image034

When you reach the receptionists desk the big boss comes up, Olivier Garneau is his name and Melanie introduces you to each other.

clip_image036

Like most CEO’s he is fairly disconnected from the workings of the company and the new hires, he asks which character you are and goes down the list.  After dropping a few names, Melanie interrupts and says “Edward”, Olivier seems to love the pirates and emulates your character, Edward mockingly.  At the end he mentions to her that they need to meet in private later and she breaks away showing you to your desk, looks like you are on your way through Google.

clip_image038

Melanie walks you to your desk where you meet John the IT guy who is calibrating your PC.  DO NOT SAY FIXING, he seems to get insulted by that.

clip_image040

Then finally you reach the other side of your desk where you will spend most of your time (like in real life).  Here is where you log back into the game from within the office.

clip_image042

Here you see your shelves with a single ornament, a figurine.

clip_image044

This figurine is you; Edward as an assassin and this shelves collection will grow quickly.  As you meet key people within the game the shelf will populate itself with these characters.  Let’s jump back into the game.

clip_image046

When you first log onto your machine you are greeted with a female computerized voice and brought to this screen.  You will land on this screen often, every time you die you enter this limbo state where you can run, jump and swing your swords but really go nowhere.  It does not say it but it seems to be where the game loads.

clip_image048

clip_image050

clip_image052

Till this point you have gone through a scripted playable intro although it didn’t feel too scripted but it was because now the game starts.

As a new comer into the series I liked the Pirate aspect, it was pretty fun and the story was pretty original.  So far the story had me hooked; I can appreciate where Edward is going trying to make more out of himself and his wife not understanding.  In such a short time there have been some nice twist and thinking the surprises were going to be minimal you are thrown into the modern age as a different character with a different story, but how different?  It actually gets a little more warped, check out the next chapter in this review coming soon.

Let me know what you think so far.

With introduction of tons of new games this year, this would be really overwhelming for you to choose the best ones for your Android. So, here is a brief and comprehensive list of top 10 games for 2014 just for you. projectgodus

7. Project Godus – This game can be played on both Android and iOS. This game is created by Peter Molyneux – the maker of famous PC game Populous. Project Godus can be considered as the spiritual successor to that old school game.

8. Drifter – It’s an amazing open-world sandbox space-trading game that features tens of thousands of stars to explore. The soundtrack associated with this game is one of the most significant points of attraction. You will play the role of a spaceship captain and attempt to eke out living amongst the stars by hunting pirates, mining asteroids in search of precious ore, trading goods between stars and sometimes, even become a pirate yourself.

Play the games of your choice and your year will be full of sheer fun and enjoyment.

The post Ratchet and Clank: Before the Nexus Review appeared first on Dragons Love Tech.

]]>
Ratchet and Clank: BTN (free) by Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC is not a full-fledged Ratchet and Clank title but an endless runner that is undoubtedly similar to numerous other popular Endless Runner games slumming around on the Google Play Store.

As the name says, Before the Nexus takes place before the events that unfurl in the Into the Nexus game. In this game, Vendera Prog and her brother, Neftin Prog, are making trouble, and Ratchet along with Clank gears up to stop them.

In this installment of the Franchise, Ratchet is running along a three way Track and though the title has Clank in it’s name, Ratchet really does most of the work in this run. Clank hangs out on his buddy’s back as usual, but he doesn’t lend much other than the witty quip. It’s a bit disappointing since a little humor, better voice acting, and general back-and-forth would nothing but help set the game apart from other endless runners providing a bit of audio entertainment while playing.

Ratchet’s Primary objective is to run, shoot and avoid the obstacles while collecting the bolts, which serves as the in-game currency, and of course the main goal is staying alive. The terrain switches between rail-grinding zones and  shooting zones, which mixes up the action nicely and should keep you coming back for another run, or two or three.

I found the shooting in the game is spotty unfortunately. You fire shots by tapping on an enemy, which is simple enough – until your finger gets into the scenario blocking your view making it difficult to see who’s targeting you as some enemies shoot back, and your own finger then blocks you from seeing what pitfalls are looming ahead.

Dodging obstacles in these instances can also be difficult. Before the Nexus is responsive most of the time but I found it to stick when you make evasive maneuvers. Sometimes shooting or dodging also takes a split-second longer than it should, and you can’t afford that split-second when enemies are bearing down on you.

Before the Nexus does look good, thanks to smooth character models and rich outdoor environments, it makes you feel you’re in the Ratchet and Clank universe. The animation is fluid and there was no slowdown aside from the above mentioned gun problem.

Moving is basic, left and right determined by touching the screen..any other movements are automated like jumping and swimming. Two finger to move the view around, or the avatar head to center screen on avatar. You can also use an onscreen joystick to control Maxwell’s movement and camera view.

Getting through a level requires you to create via the notepad the needed tool, animal or object. For example I may need to fly to reach a cliff that is too tall for a ladder. I click the notepad, type in Pegasus and a Pegasus appears then I can fly. Shovel to dig a hole, rock to hold a button or a bridge to help a Knight cross a shark filled lake. If you get too many wrong objects you can drag them to the notepad and remove them or shake the phone to remove all unused objects. There is a spy glass you can use to identify objects on the screen.

Note there are many creative ways to beat each level, you aren’t only trying to find the 1 object and you would be surprised at how creative you can be.Scribblenauts REmix (3)

There are hints you can use if you get stuck which happened to me more than I thought might.

Overall a pretty decent game. with Scribblenauts Remix I got most of my $0.99 out of it. I think the 5 worlds would be enough for me though.  This game is also an excellent choice for younger kids as it not only can encourage them to spell and learn new words, but also with the spell check and helper it may help them discover new words as well as helping them build creative problem solving concepts.
