I was always used to manual docking but I decided to try out a docking computer after seeing my son always use one. They are surprisingly fast and accurate and allow you to step away from your desk and take a bio break or get a drink while the docking computer docks your spaceship for you in Elite: Dangerous. They do only take up a small optional slot, but unfortunately on a Python you have to give up a larger slot than you want, I think all ships should have a spare size 1 slot like they do for the planetary landing.
